Trench-It, Inc. receives WE Energies Star Award - 2008

Trench-It, Inc. was acknowledged with an award for outstanding service for Emergency Storm Response.

We Energies was not only satisfied with the quality of the work performed by the Trench-It crews but made special note of our commitment to their utility and customers. Often times when storms cover such a wide area across many utilities, a contractor might respond where it is most convenient and profitable. During one such occasion, Trench-It remained in We Energies territory in anticipation of outages that could arise as the storms were moving toward the area.

Carl Griffith elected as the NSC Utilities Division Chair

Carl Griffith, Director of Safety and Quality for INTREN, Inc. an Underground Electrical Contractor in Union IL, was elected as the National Safety Council Utilities Division Chair for a two-year term. As chair of the Utilities Division, Carl will also serve as a voting member on the National Safety Council's Board of Delegates.


Carl also serves as the Vice-President of the Board for the Chicago Construction Safety Council. He is a board member of the Illinois Safety Council, a board member and past president of the National Safety Management Society, a board member of the Union/Marengo Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Safety Committee for the Underground Contractor's Association. In addition, Carl also holds a professional membership in the American Society of Safety Engineers. He has served the National Safety Council in various leadership roles since the early 80's.


The National Safety Council saves lives by preventing injuries at work, on the roads, in homes and communities through leadership, research, education and advocacy.

Trench-It, Inc. receives Illinois Safety Council Awards

Illinois Safety Council held it 76th annual members meeting and awards banquet on May 1, 2001, awarding Trench-It, Inc. with two distinctive awards.

At the event, which is as old as the Council itself, qualifying member organizations were recognized for their outstanding safety and health performance, and their notable transportation safety achievements during 2000.

Trench-It, Inc. earned a Safety and Health Award recognizing Outstanding Safety Performance in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for their employees and for striving to reduce the number of accidents at their facility in 2000. "This Safety and Health Award recognizes the combined efforts of committed managers and dedicated employees who value the principles of safety." said George Hiles, President of the Illinois Safety Council.

Trench-It, Inc. also earned a Transportation Award recognizing Outstanding Safety Performance....for their efforts in significantly reducing the number of vehicle accidents in 2000.

"This Transportation Award recognizes the combined efforts of committed managers and dedicated employees who recognize and demonstrate the value of safe driving every mile of every day." said George Hiles, President of the Illinois Safety Council.

Trench-It Receives 2000 Illinois Golden Backhoe Award

Local Company Recognized by JULIE, Inc. for Outstanding Statewide Efforts in Underground Damage Prevention

MCHENRY, IL- Representatives of the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE), in coordination with the Illinois Damage Prevention Councils, announced that Trench-It, Inc. of McHenry has been chosen as the recipient of the 2000 Illinois Golden Backhoe Award.

Loretta Rosenmayer, president of Trench-It,Inc., Roger Schmidt, loss control coordinator, and Carl Griffith, safety director, received the prestigious award at a ceremony during JULIE's recent annual meeting in Collinsville, Illinois.

"This statewide award recognizes Trench-It and its employees for outstanding efforts in underground damage prevention last year," said Mark Frost, executive director of JULIE, Inc. "The company's strong commitment to damage prevention practices, safety and training procedures, the Dig Safely Campaign and Damage Prevention Council meetings is commendable."

Trench-It, Inc. is the experienced underground contractor serving utilities, municipalities, developers, electrical contractors, cable television companies, homeowners and others in the Northern Illinois Region. To adhere to the Dig Safely campaign, Trench-It instituted the Utility Reduction Damage Program. The company is also a member of the ComEd Dig-in Reduction Team and Northeastern Illinois Damage Prevention Council. Trench-It has approximately 185 employees. JULIE, also known as the "Illinois One-Call System," is a not -for-profit corporation that provides contractors, excavators, homeowners and others who plan to dig with a toll-free telephone number (1-800-892-0123) to call for the locating and marking of underground facilities. JULIE serves as a message handling service for utilities service for utilities, taking information about planned excavations and distributing this information to its utility membership. It is then the responsibility of each utility to mark the location of their underground facilities at the excavation site.

New Bore Planner

Our new Bore Planner improves the accuracy of boring and reduces the risk of damage to existing underground utilities. The bore planner locates and records all underground utilities in the area of the proposed bore path. With this information in hand, we can map an accurate bore path that avoids the existing utilities. The Bore Planner provides the data necessary to create an accurate "as built" schematic for the new installation that can be used for future reference. As part of our commitment to excellence at Trench-It, all crew members review the bore planner report each day and sign off on it. You benefit with a more accurate installation and reduced damage.

Locating Services

Our new Locating Services pick up where JULIE leaves off by locating privately-owned underground infrastructure. Trench-It will come onto your site and locate storm drains, sanitary lines, power lines and other underground infrastructure. Our Locating Services are ideal for utilities, municipalities not on the JULIE system, cell tower owners, contractors and others needing help locating privately-owned underground infrastructure. A recent example of our Locating Service expertise was our contract to locate underground power lines and deliver As-Built plans necessary for engineering the current reconstruction of upper and lower Wacker Drive in Chicago. While your project may not be as large or complex as the Wacker Drive job, you can trust Trench-It to locate your underground infrastructure in a timely, efficient manner.
